Empowering Financial Inclusion: Camalig Bank's Partnership with the Asian Development Bank

In a strategic move towards fostering financial inclusion, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) began searching for financial institutions needing support under its Fintech for Inclusion Transformation (FIT) program. This initiative is an integral part of the ADB-financed Inclusive Finance Development Program, aimed at enhancing Filipinos' access to financial services, especially within the unbanked segments of the population.

The FIT program, designed to catalyze positive transformations in the financial sector, extends support to selected banks through grants funded by the ADB’s High-Level Technology Fund to acquire suitable technological solutions. Among the numerous applicants, the ADB chose nine rural banks and a bank consortium as the beneficiaries of this endeavor.

Camalig Bank was one of the nine rural banks selected under the FIT program. Recognizing the potential of technology to bridge financial gaps, Camalig Bank chose e-Connect as its online banking solution. This decision is poised to revolutionize the bank's operations by facilitating the onboarding of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) onto the digital banking platform.

MSMEs are recognized as vital contributors to economic growth, yet their exclusion from digital financial services has been a longstanding challenge. By selecting e-Connect as the funded solution, Camalig Bank aims to break down these barriers, ensuring that MSMEs have convenient access to essential banking services through online channels.

The financial backing provided by the FIT program aligns seamlessly with Camalig Bank's mission to extend online banking services to MSMEs. This commitment was solidified on 16 February 2024 when the bank's president, Jose Misael B. Moraleda, attended the online signing of the memorandum of agreement. This formal agreement symbolizes a collaborative effort to propel the vision of inclusive financial services forward.

Camalig Bank’s move to provide an online banking solution to MSMEs and corporate clients is poised to contribute significantly to the financial success of these entities, unlocking new opportunities for growth and prosperity. As the banking landscape evolves, initiatives like the FIT program and the incremental steps of institutions like Camalig Bank become instrumental in creating a more inclusive and digitally empowered financial ecosystem.
