Finance Comes to Life as JFinEx Visits Camalig Bank’s Corporate Office
Reflecting on the recent visit of St. Louise de Marillac College of Sorsogon’s Junior Financial Executives (JFinEx) to the Corporate Office of Camalig Bank, I feel proud and optimistic. On 24 January 2024, we Camalig Bankers welcomed a bright and eager group of 148 students, accompanied by three faculty members, including their moderator, Darwin F. Ervas, a former Camalig Banker. This visit was more than a mere field trip; it was a meaningful bridge between academic learning and real-world financial practice.
The day was carefully structured to accommodate the large group, with students split into morning and afternoon sessions. As they arrived, their curiosity breathed life into Sutileza Hall, proving the importance of such initiatives in bridging the gap between classroom theory and practical application.
I was privileged to introduce the students to Camalig Bank’s culture and advocacies, highlighting our commitment to financial literacy and community service. Following this, our team presented various products and services, explained the different departments’ functions, and shared about career opportunities at the bank, offering students a glimpse into the diverse offerings of modern banking.
The day’s interactive elements, like the Kahoot! game and the raffle of basic savings accounts were particularly engaging. They brought theory to life in a fun and practical manner.
My colleagues and I had plenty of fun touring the students around our workspaces, and we hope they did, too. We walked through the Head Office and various departments and showcased our collection of artworks, awards, currencies, and cherished antiques from the founding family’s ancestral home. This part of the visit blended the history, culture, and commitments that define our bank.
JFinEx’s visit may have been short, but it provided a glimpse into understanding the banking sector and the world of a bank aiming to push the boundaries of what a bank can do. The enthusiasm and inquisitive nature of the students reinforced my belief in the importance of practical learning experiences. As we look forward, we are excited about continuing this fruitful collaboration, fostering a solid relationship between academia and the finance industry, and inspiring the next generation of financial leaders.
I’d like to give a special shoutout to my talented colleagues who helped make this event a success.
